In the introductory speech (attached) by the Chairman the background to development of issues regarding aviation and climate change in ICAO was explained and how the European Union has taken upon itself to introduce unilaterally emission trading system for all commercial aircrafts coming into EU from 1st January, 2012. Then Dr. Panagotis
Karamanos, Manager Environmental Services, Athens International Airport, SA was requested to explain the system of ETS, the method of calculation etc. Dr. Panagotis explained the concept of ETS and how the calculation for each airline will be made.
